What people say

It helped me by showing me that drugs, drink and sex are not the answer and that I can sort out my problems another way.
It helped me learn about new stuff because it was interesting and very practical. Not just sitting around writing a tale. It let me get my hands on a camera and work with a great group of young people, some of whom I'm still in contact with and share work with. Being able to talk about different ideas, interview people and have a go at directing really made me realise I could do this myself, and I've just bought a camera of my own!
One of the young men I attended with was 24 and had never been to London in his life. For him coming to the event was therefore an incredible experience. For him and all of the other young people I attended with (all sufferers of mental illness) the day was structured in such a way as to make engagement work. They all engaged with the films and particularly liked the question time. All in all it was exceptionally positive and a very impressive undertaking

The project was excellent. Our young people thoroughly enjoyed the week and they were clearly proud of the films they produced. It was a very good team building week for the learners, in which they also learnt lots of new skills. Thank you very much for all of your help.

As a public service broadcaster UTV is keen to represent all sections of our community. We are delighted to give these talented youngster the opportunity to show their films to a mainstream Northern Ireland audience. BoldVoices will give our viewers a real insight into the issues young people are concerned about and we are proud to showcase their work and nurture future talent.

The group absolutely loved the experience and it did what the community foundation had hoped for through this funding stream – ‘gave voice’ to the experiences of young people. The balance between ensuring a positive working experience and final ‘product’ was well matched and added to the overall experience. It was a long and demanding couple of days but the young women really enjoyed the sessions and were extremely proud of their final pieces. Great facilitation throughout.
Out & About Young Women's Group
The workers at Boldface made the young women feel so at ease from the offset, they were always so motivating and enthusiastic with the young women’s ideas. The overall experience was amazing watching the confidence of the young women grow with each step and they all found an element of the film making process which best suited their skills. As a worker I have learnt so much from Boldface and I will also carry these skills with me in my work for the future. I really want to thank the team for this experience and really hope we get to do more in the future.
